Hi.:

I am a total novice when it comes to the technical aspects of the PC.so here we go.

I am currently running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.  I am trying to edit a video that was transferred from a mini DV recorder to a DVD.  When I try to import the DVD files to Windows Movie Maker I get the following error messages:

The file C: Users Owner Desktop VIDEO_TS VIDEO_TS.BUP cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker,

and then try to import the file again.

The file C: Users Owner Desktop VIDEO_TS VIDEO_TS.IFO cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker,

C: Users Owner Desktop VIDEO_TS VIDEO_TS.VOB could not be imported. Unspecified error

The file C: Users Owner Desktop VIDEO_TS VTS_01_0.BUP cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker,

The file C: Users Owner Desktop VIDEO_TS VTS_01_0.IFO cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker,

Copying DVD to Computer

Hi Experts,

I copied 2 movies from TV onto a DVD. I transfer it to my computer and I got 2 files:

1 VIDEO_RM containing :

VIDEO_RM.BUP, VIDEO_RM.IFO and VIDEO_RM.DAT and

2 VIDEO_TS containing:

VTS_01_1.VOB, VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO,

VIDEO_TS.VOB, VTS_010.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO

What did they mean. How can I turn them back into movies.

Guys, I don t know a thing abt computer.

Thank you.

KP

When you made the DVD the program made that funny-looking file and folder structure so that the DVD can play in standalone DVD players.

If I were going to take a guess, I d say your movie is all in VTS_01_1.VOB. It s in MPEG-2, but if you were able to burn it, you should be able to play it. Just open VTS_01_1.VOB with Windows Media Player or VLC or whatever you want.

Hi Mr. Carrot

According to your advice, it works.

Thank you very much.

Well, the Vob contain all the video data and audio data, the Ifo file controle when the video data and audio data should be play, the bup file is a copy of ifo file and to make sure the vob sitll can play when the ifo is damaged.
